What happens on picture days?
I set up in a specific outdoor area. This spot varies throughout the day according to where the best lighting and backgrounds are.
When students come outside for break, each child will be brought to my photo area for one on one time with me until we get a good photo. ORNS members organize the students to be photographed and do a last minute wipe down of faces for each child just before their photo.
We will then take a group photo of each class with all kids and their teacher(s).
What should my child wear for pictures?
Kids should wear whatever they feel good in!
If you have options/flexibility, colors look great outdoors. I suggest to avoid bold patterns/graphics/characters, neon colors, or colors that are similar to their skin tone. Avoid pastels as they don't usually photograph well.
I also recommend washing off all temporary tattoos or marker on skin if possible. If not possible to remove, wear something that easily covers it
How should I prepare my child for picture day?
It's best not to tell your child to smile nice or do a good job for their pictures.
If you would like to prepare them, you could tell them that you heard the photographer acts silly sometimes, and it's ok for them to giggle in their pictures if they think I'm funny.
Do I need to commit to buying something for you to take my child's photo?
No, we will take photos of all of the students. If you don't love your child's photo, we can try again on retake day, or you can choose not to order.
The only thing I do require: Please do not post your child's photo on social media unless you purchase a digital image.
Do you offer packages?
Instead of offering set packages, I offer tiered discounts. You can choose any items you'd like and receive discounts when you reach certain quantities. The discount structure will be shared when the galleries are posted.
Why should I buy prints from you if I bought the digital image?
Buying the digital image for any photo gives you the right to print that photo anywhere you choose. However, the quality of professional photo lab prints from me is significantly from local vendor prints. Local vendors will change the color, contrast, brightness, etc. If you must print locally, I can recommend vendors who may do a better job than others.
Additionally, when you order an enlargement, the ratio is different from the original image which means part of the image you are viewing will be cut off. An 8x10" print cuts off the most. For all enlargements, I will do what I can to crop the image in a way that cuts off the least amount of your image as possible. Sometimes it is even possible to create more background to prevent eliminating any of your child's image in an enlargement. All orders placed come directly to me for approval before being sent to the lab to print. I adjust all cropping for no additional charge.
I do keep my print pricing low in an effort to make the beautiful, accurate professional prints accessible to everyone.
Will the photos be touched up?
The photos will be color corrected and adjusted for contrast, brightness, etc.
Blemish removal and other skin or clothing retouching are not included. It is optional to add full retouching for $30 per image.
Will the watermark be on my prints and/or digital downloads?
No - there will be no logos or marking on your prints other than on the contact sheets where the school and classroom name as you see it is part of the image design.
Are school portraits your main job?
I have been a child and family photographer since 2009. My resume includes 6 previous years at ORNS, and a few years other schools. I have also taught classes on how to successfully photograph children.
My other specialties include business headshots and events, along with newly added senior portraits.
Photography was my main job for many years. Recently, I went back to school to earn a degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. I now also work in subacute inpatient rehab with individuals managing significant injury and life changes.
I love all my jobs!
Can we hire you for other kinds of photography?
Yes! I would love that!
Please click on the "Services" link in the home or footer menu to check out my offerings. I offer various portrait session options, as well as a discounted On-Call List throughout the fall. Family photos, business headshots, and events are my areas of specialty.
I've made some great connections with ORNS families in the past, some of whom I have now been photographing for 12+ years.
